- Per history written by Dr. Edward Jardine:
When England and the United States of America engaged each other in the War of 1812, two young brothers named Henry and George Edwards of Manchester, England joined the British army and came with it to Canada to serve in that war. At its close, in lieu of pay, each of them received from the government one hundred acres of land near the present site of the City of Cannington, Ontario province.
About this time an immigrant by the name of Masterson from Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland came to Canada and entered one hundred acres close to the homes of the Edwards boys. He built a house, cleared some land and sent for his wife and two children.
Mrs. Masterson's maiden name was Elizabeth Munn. Learning of her husband's success in the new country she bade farewell to her home and friends and set sail for Canada, probably not later than 1815.
When she arrived in that wilderness of trees and wild beasts and the still more savage Indians, she found her husband had been killed. It seemed he had been in the woods whe a storm came with rain, thunder, and lightening and that he had taken shelter under a tree. The tree was struck by lightening and a large limb tore off, falling on Mr. Masterson. It was impossible to tell whether he was killed by the blow from the limb or whether the lightening had killed him.
Mrs. Masterson went pluckity to work on the farm her husband had left her, and later became acquainted with and married Henry Edwards. Three children were born to them: Henry, the oldest; Sarah Ann, second; and Elizabeth third. Elizabeth was my mother (writes Edward William Jardine).

This would make Edward born around Feb of 1831 - likely the son "killed by the kick of a mule".
(His siblings would have been Sarah, born about 1830; Henry, born 3/1831 (maybe a twin??); Elizabeth, born 8/1832.)
- (Research):The transcription records of "All Saints" cemetery on the 11 concession of Brock contain reference to a Henry EDWARDS who was born about 1789 and died 17 July 1848. I have no evidence to support to which EDWARDS family this Henry belonged but the dates appear to align with this family history.
I have not sorted out all of my EDWARDS Clan, quite a few settled in Brock Township. From Wales originally. gggrandfather married Elizabeth Edwards daughter of Edward Edwards - I have this line back to 1700's. The Edwards Family were very much into Horses, breeding & racing. I Know that Henry's sister Sarah and george Horne have 4 children buried at the Manilla Cemetery ( Manilla is situated in both Brock Township, (old Ontario county ) now Durham Region & Mariposa Township, ( old Victoria County) now City of the Kawartha Lakes) If you would like the transcript please let me know.
