  • Notes
    • Kate Mooney was born in Monaghan County, Ireland, the
daughter of Rebecca Gillis Mooney and Daniel Mooney . Her
mother had eloped with Daniel and they had a son, John and
shortly thereafter, Daniel was accidently killed. Rebecca
returned to her parent's home and soon after Kate was born.
Rebecca raised the two children in their grandparent's home.
In 1835, Kate's brother John emigrated to Canada. After
spending a year with his uncle William (Rebecca's brother) and
some time in Vermont, John returned to Inverness in 1847. John
was a progressive young man. He started buying cattle and
shipping them to Quebec. As business expanded, he bought in
the U.S. and while there, sent for his sister Kate and their mother
to come to Canada from Ireland.

When Kate first arrived, she worked in the mills in Vermont.
Later, she married John George of Inverness. After their
marriage, her mother came to live with them.
Kate is buried in Boutelles Cemetery in Inverness next to her
      husband.

Acc. to notes by Mrs. Grace Cox's mother, of Inverness, Catherine's brother John sent for her and their mother Rebecca Mooney to come to join him in Inverness. [3]
